There are a few good places to start in Rancho Peñasquitos: a Town Council meeting, wildfire preparedness through the Fire Safe Council, or a neighborhood gathering with the people on your street. You can choose the level of involvement that fits your life.
Why I care about this
For me, community starts with knowing the people around you. That is what I want to build through my Town Council and Fire Safe Council work, and through Bring the Neighborhood Back.
A welcome party gives someone new a chance to meet their neighbors. A farewell gathering gives longtime neighbors a chance to celebrate the relationships they have built. Real estate brings me into people's lives during those transitions, and I love being able to help them connect along the way.
You do not have to join a board or take on a big commitment to get involved. Come to a gathering, introduce yourself or invite a neighbor along. That is a place to start.
What does the Town Council do?
The Rancho de los Peñasquitos Town Council is a community nonprofit. Its meetings bring neighbors together for updates from public officials and news about volunteer opportunities, and it hosts the annual Fiesta de los Peñasquitos. Its website lists a monthly meeting on the second Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at the Rancho Family YMCA, 9410 Fairgrove Lane, and posts agendas on its agenda page. The Get Involved page explains how to volunteer or join the council.
What does the Fire Safe Council do?
The Rancho Peñasquitos Fire Safe Council promotes Firewise activities and wildfire safety education. It has presented community programs with the Town Council, including a presentation on Zone Zero. Current information and a contact email are on its page on the Town Council website.
What if I want something more personal?
Through Bring the Neighborhood Back, I help neighbors plan welcome and farewell gatherings. These are hosted gatherings, not public events. If you would like to be part of one, or you are interested in hosting one on your street, you can let me know on my Neighbors page.
Where do land use questions go?
Questions about development and land use go to the Rancho de los Peñasquitos Planning Board, the community planning group whose agendas and minutes are posted by the City of San Diego.
Want an introduction to one of these groups, or want to talk about a gathering on your street? Reach out any time.
TALK WITH MARYREAD THE PQ GUIDEMy Town Council and Fire Safe Council roles are volunteer positions. They are separate from my real estate business, and neither organization endorses it.
