Living in Rancho Peñasquitos

Rancho Peñasquitos, often called PQ, is a canyon and hillside community in North Inland San Diego. It is commonly associated with the 92129 ZIP code, though ZIP codes and community boundaries do not line up exactly.

A note from Mary

I moved from Rancho Bernardo to Rancho Peñasquitos in 2021. PQ is home, and my involvement here is personal. I serve as Vice President of the Rancho Peñasquitos Town Council and Co-Chair of the Rancho Peñasquitos Fire Safe Council because I care about our neighbors and the community we share.

Bring the Neighborhood Back grew from that same feeling. Through welcome and farewell gatherings, I help neighbors meet, reconnect and celebrate the people who make a neighborhood feel like home. Sometimes it starts with an invitation and a conversation.

My Town Council and Fire Safe Council roles are volunteer positions. They are separate from my real estate business, and neither organization endorses it.

Where Rancho Peñasquitos is

City Council districts and Town Council districts

City Council districts. Rancho Peñasquitos falls within San Diego City Council Districts 5 and 6, so City representation depends on the address. Use the City's Find My Council District map to check a specific property.

Town Council districts. The Rancho de los Peñasquitos Town Council is a community nonprofit, not part of City government. Its representatives come from its own districts within the community. These Town Council districts are separate from City Council districts.

Planning. Land use questions go to the Rancho de los Peñasquitos Planning Board, the community planning group whose agendas and minutes are posted by the City of San Diego.

Parks, open space and the library

  • Los Peñasquitos Canyon Preserve, a large canyon preserve with trails, shared with neighboring communities.
  • Black Mountain Open Space Park, with trails and views from Black Mountain.
  • Hilltop Community Park and Recreation Center, 9711 Oviedo Way.
  • Rancho Peñasquitos Library, 13330 Salmon River Road. The Rancho Peñasquitos Library is closed for renovations. Check the City's library page for project updates and available services.

Schools

Schools are assigned by property address, and a ZIP code alone does not determine school assignment. Before relying on a specific school, confirm the exact address with the school district. Poway Unified School District offers an Address Lookup tool and elementary, middle and high school boundary maps.
